Fellow science-fiction nerds have known about Morena Baccarin for quite some time. Whether it's been on "Stargate SG-1," ABC's "V," or Joss Whedon's short-lived but much-loved "Firefly," Baccarin has always brought a sexy elegance that's left a mark in fans' eyes. Lately, the actress has been turning heads in Showtime's "Homeland" as Jessica, wife of potential Vice Presidential candidate and domestic terrorist Sergeant Nicholas Brody. In an interview with IGN, she spoke about the many characters she's played, new and old.
Despite her new, more widely known role, Baccarin remains grateful for her time on the sci-fi cult classic. "It’s just magic. You can’t explain magic, and that’s what the show is and what it was. Everybody together made that," Baccarin said. "I think it’s one of those things, when the stars align, it just works. You can’t explain it or dissect it or figure out why -- it’s just one of those things."
Meanwhile, on "Homeland" her character discovered her husband's Muslim conversion in the season premiere. Baccarin sees Jessica as in the right to be suspicious. "...she doesn’t automatically go, 'Muslim -- oh, he’s a terrorist,' obviously. Those two things do not equal the same thing. She sees that there’s something up with him," the actress explained. "She doesn’t immediately go to the place of, 'He’s a bad guy.' This is her husband. This is somebody that she grew up with and lives with. I think it would be a real stretch for her to suddenly get there. But she is suspicious of his life and what he’s withholding from her."
Part of her character's anger stems from the potential of ruining her new shiny, happy life in the public eye and social stratosphere. Baccarin continues, "That’s a little bit of her ambition, too, coming out of, 'Don’t f**k this up for me. I’m loving this!' Of course, the betrayal of her husband, not telling her about a major thing in his life -- she doesn’t ask anymore. That’s it. She has that scene with him. There are other scenes where she’s saying to him, 'You need to be truthful with me about other things as well that are going on in your life.' So it’s an underlying current in their relationship throughout the series."
